Finding the Right Orthodontic Treatment for You

Unlike 20 years ago, when wearing metal braces was the only way to get straighter teeth, kids and adults wanting to perfect their smiles now have several options to choose from.

For some, the invisibility of Invisalign make treatment less noticeable, and therefore, more comfortable. For others, traditional braces are still the best way to go, with some of our teen patients even using them as a fashion statement by adding brightly colored bands or different bracket shapes.

What Is Invisalign?

Even though Invisalign in New Jersey has been available since 2000, it is still often referred to as a “new” orthodontic treatment option. But don’t let this label fool you - Invisalign is a proven method for treating common orthodontic issues such as:

  • Crooked teeth

  • Crowded teeth

  • Gaps between teeth

  • Overbites

  • Underbites

  • Crossbites

  • Open bites

Dr. D'Avanzo is a certified Diamond Plus Invisalign® Provider, which puts him in the top 1% of Invisalign providers. He recommends it to the majority of her patients due to its effectiveness and convenience. If you want to change your smile or bite but don’t want braces, you should definitely consider Invisalign.

How Invisalign Works

Invisalign is an orthodontic treatment system consisting of a series of clear, removable, and comfortable aligners that are virtually invisible.

You wear each set of aligners for about seven days, removing them only to eat, drink, brush, and floss. As you replace each aligner with the next in the series, your teeth will move more and more until they have straightened to their final position.

Using our convenient Dental Monitoring system, we'll review your progress virtually every week to ensure your treatment is going as planned. If something needs to be changed or looked at more closely, we will schedule an in-person appointment for you. Total treatment time is typically 9 to 20 months.

What Are the Benefits of Invisalign Over Braces?

Invisalign requires fewer lifestyle changes while getting your beautiful smile. Not only are the aligners invisible, they are removable, so you can eat and drink what you want. Plus, brushing and flossing are exactly the same. The aligners are comfortable, with no metal to cause mouth soreness during treatment.

No metal or wires also usually means you spend less time in our office getting adjustments. And with Invisalign, you can view your own virtual treatment plan and see how your teeth will look when the process is complete.

Metal Braces

Tried, True, and Better Than Ever

Silver braces were the first widely available orthodontic treatment and they are still the most common treatment used today. Their popularity is based on proven results, their ability to fix almost any orthodontic issue, and their cost-effectiveness.

How Metal Braces Have Improved

Even though they have been around for decades, silver braces are in no way outdated or past their prime. Improvements have been made throughout the years, including the use of lightweight but durable stainless steel, smaller brackets that are adhered to teeth rather than being attached with metal bands, and improved arch wire material and technology.

Rather than dreading having braces, some kids consider them a fashion statement. They can select brightly colored bands in their favorite colors, their team colors, or even holiday colors to display on their braces.

Treatment Time

On average, patients wear silver braces for 12 to 24 months, after which a retainer needs to be worn to keep the teeth from shifting back to their original positions.
